These are the new and current definatives of Singapore.

The stamps show the flowers:
The Blue Pea Vine - also commonly known as the Butterfly Pea, is a vine native to tropical and equitorial Asia. A perinial climber with a woody base, it can climb tall grasses and crops. Now it is widely grown as an ornamental plant. The flowers are harvested and are a traditional source of a blue food colour.

The Pigeon Orchid - is the member of the family Orchidaceae. This orchid produces white fragrant flowers with a yellow tinted throat. From the side, the orchid resembles a flying pigeon, and hence, it is also commonly known as The Pigeon Orchid. It is a widely cultivated ornamental and landscape plant.

The Miniature Sheet shows a Pigeon Orchid embroidered in the centre of the stamp. The printing process used in the sheet is Offset Lithography with Embroidery.

Catalogue numbers to be updated at a later date.

1st - Blue Pea Vine - Clitoria Ternatea
1st - Pigeon Orchid - Dendrobium Crumenatum
$5 - Pigeon Orchid - Dendrobium Crumenatum (Miniature Sheet)

Embroidered Stamp from Austria

The stamp shown is issued by Austria on 19th July, 2005.

The specialty about the stamp is that it is made of threads, embroidered into a design. The leitmotif of this unusual creation is the Edelweiss, queen of alpine flowers. The stamps has been issued to commemorate the long lived embroidery industry which dates back to 18th century, situated in Lustenau, the metropolis of the Vorarlberg embroidery industry, Austria.

The important thing to note is that the stamp is designed by the, Haemmerle & Vogel from Lustenau, a long-standing family business and embroiderers to the avant-garde. The stamp can even be worn.

The stamp has a self-adhesive backing and known as an Imperf Stamp.

2019 - Edelweiss - Leontopodium Alpinum

Wildflowers from Finland

This Miniature Sheet was issued by Finland on 1st June, 1994. The foliage in the background indicates the outdoor setting.

The original painting by the artist is said to be, in the The Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia.

Souvenir sheet issued by Russia on 12 December, 1973.

4148 - Flora - Painting by Rembrandt

National Flower of Bolivia

This Imperf Miniature Sheet was released by Bolivia on 28th June, 1962. As a measure of respect their fellow scholars would often accord them the honour of naming a new genus of plants after them.

35p - Valerius Cordus was a German apothecary whose detailed botanical studies advanced pharmacology in the early 16th century. The genus Cordia commemorates his name. Cordia sebestena is known as the Geiger Tree.

40p - Born in Warwickshire Nehemiah Grew practiced medicine in London where he became famous for his work on plant anatomy. The genus Grewia, which commemorates his name, is native to tropical Africa, Asia and Australia. The common names for Grewia occidentalis are Starflower and Four Corners.

50p - The French botanist, Charles Plumier, after whom the genus Plumeria was named, was born in Marseilles. Plumeria rubra is perhaps more familiar to people as Frangipani or Pagoda or Temple Tree.

£2 - Carl Peter Thunberg was born in Sweden and went on to study medicine at Uppsala University, where he also became a pupil of Linnaeus. The genus of tropical plants, Thunbergia, is named after him. Thunbergia grandiflora is known as Bengal Clockvine or Bengal Trumpet.

Catalogue numbers to be updated at a later date.

Aquatic Plants from Slovenia

This Miniature sheet was issued by Slovenia on 26th September, 2007.

The white water-lily is a symbol of slowly running and stagnant waters. Not many people are aware that in Slovenia, it is a native plant known primarily as a decorative plant of artificial water objects. It attaches to silt with a strong rhizome and on the surface, it grows large, floating leaves with veins in a netlike structure. The flowers are also of considerable size, growing 10 to 15 centimeters in diameter, and the green sepals transform into numerous petals which form the water-lily’s main “ornament”. In the middle of the hermaphroditic flower, there are numerous yellow stamens and a pistil with an ovary. The ovary matures into a green fruit with multiple seeds.

There are several kinds of species of water-lily, however, in Slovenia only the white water-lily can be found in nature. On the other hand, flower shops offer water-lilies of different colours of flowers, from pink and lilac to yellow. For this reason, the pressure on natural water-lily populations has been greatly reduced, as fanciers of water gardens and private ponds usually go for more lively specimens. The specialty about the stamps are that it contains the fragrance of the Rose Flower embedded in it. The technology behind this is micro-encapsulation. In this process tiny particles or droplets are surrounded by a coating to give small capsules with many useful properties. A non-fragrant stamp also was issued along with this with its denomination being in solid grey colour.

To release the scent of rose one has to rub his finger accross the stamps.

2487 - Rose - Rosa

Fossil of the earliest known flowering plant species

Archefacteous Liaoningensis is known as the earliest flowering plant species known to mankind.
